What is a Lab Grown Diamond?
This is probably my most frequently asked question. Simply put, a lab grown diamond is a real diamond. They are identical to earth mined diamonds in every way, except they are grown in a lab environment using advanced technological processes that duplicate the conditions under which diamonds naturally develop. They are chemically and visually the same.
Both diamonds give the same brilliance, the same type of clarity and color, and both come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Both are hard, durable and long-lasting.
Price is where you see the difference
The difference comes in price. Natural diamonds took billions of years developing under the crust of the earth, and take a great number of resources to mine. Lab diamonds are grown using science so the development time is significantly shorter, which lends to a significantly lower cost - roughly 30% less than mined diamonds of the same quality and size.
A lower price means you can choose a larger carat or higher quality diamond without going outside your budget.
Can you tell the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds?
It's impossible to tell which diamond is a lab grown and which is natural mined diamond just by looking at it, even for jewelers. It takes advanced testing to determine if a diamond is lab grown.
